Street Climbing in Gijón

Gijón opened the summer with the Spanish Championships of Sports Climbing in Lead 2014 which took place the past 28th of June at the Plaza Mayor and where the winners were Ramón Julián and Zuriñe Arrue at the national queen class.

After this, it came the Asturias Championships that took place the 5th of July also at the Plaza Mayor and had an opened category for federated and not federated climbers who wanted to initiate themselves at this sport.
Street Climbing
In order to promote this sport and also the Championship, several climbing days have been settled in different places of our city, all for free.

Climbing at the Plaza Mayor: 30th of June, 1st , 2nd and 3rd of July.

The following activities will be developed at the climbing wall installed at the Plaza Mayor for the Spanish and Asturias Championships:

Climbing Baptism to children from 9 to 14 years old: from 10.30 to 12.00 - From 12.00 to 13.30 and from 17.00 to 18.30.

Adults also have their own space.

People over 14 years old will be able to climb the climbing wall used for the Spanish Climbing Championship with the assistance of a climbing expert.

4 street climbing days for children: 14th , 23rd , 30th of August and 5th of September.


Places planned for the developement of these activities are: Pericones Square, Poniente, Parchís Square and Begoña’s Park.
Climbing at the Gijón’s Horse Show
An area for climbing games will be daily settled during the CSIO 2014, which will take place at Las Mestas Sports Complex from the 30th of July to the 4th of August, from 16:30 hours to 20:30 hours.


FIDMA (58 Asturias International Sample Trade Fair)

Getting advantage of the Fair as a meeting point of Gijón’s summer and at the same time as the Big Week of the city, two promotional journeys will be organized for publicize the IFSC Sport Climbing Championship 2014.

One Journey at the Town Hall Stand at the other at the Triocar (BMW) Stand

For our city is such an honor to count with an event of this size because the city of Gijón bets for the sports as a key pillar of the development of people and as a promoter of the economic and touristic activity of the city.

II Photography Competition

A photography competition is also called due to the World Championships. Professional and amateur national photographers may be submitted to this contest. The deadline to present the photos will be the 15th of August.

The prizes will be:
• 1st prize: 600 euros, one trophy and one diploma.
• 2nd prize: 450 euros, one trophy and one diploma.
• 3rd prize: 250 euros, one trophy and one diploma.

The closing Event for this ‘climbing summer’ in Gijón will be the IFSC Sport Climbing Championships, that will take place from the 8th to the 14th of September 2014 and will have the modalties of Lead, Speed and Paraclimbing. The Venue will be the Palacio de Deportes, and we wait for a participation of more than 800 athletes and 65 countries.
