Gijon International Film Festival is awarded the Lumière Medal for its 52 years of life

The Board of the Lumière Foundation has decided to award Gijon International Film Festival the Lumière Medal for his 52 years of support and dedication to the world of cinema. The Board has also decided to award the 2014 to Medal Cajastur-Liberbank for its support to the dissemination and spreading of filmmaking.

Designed by sculptor Manuel Alaminos, the Lumiere is an institutionalized award given to public and private entities or persons in recognition of their work and efforts towards the dissemination and promotion of film culture.

The Lumière Foundation is a non-profit organization recognized by the State, under the rules of the Ministry of Culture, as a body social interest. It was created in October 2000 for the promotion, encouragement, defence and protection of Spanish and European cinema, and its professionals. Its goals include spreading the knowledge of cinema among the youth and the use of films as tools to teach values​​.

The award will be delivered ​​by the president of the Lumière Foundation Antonio Mayorolas, on 21 November, during the opening gala of the Festival to be held in the Teatro Jovellanos.
